Things said to a Travel Agent #3

Magic Kingdom tea cups mad

When working with customers, there are times that you just have to laugh at responses and questions. This is the third installment Epcot illuminations balloonof  “Things said to a travel agent”. I hop you enjoy with a great sense of humor.

~ Client: I’ve always wanted to go to Paris to see Big Ben. / Agent: Do you mean the Eiffel Tower or to London? / Client: Does the Eiffel tower have the clock in it?

~ Client: I would like to go to an all inclusive resort for my honeymoon. It needs to be at least a 4 star resort for 7 nights. The price needs to include airfare. My budget is $1,500. /Agent: Is that per person? / Client: No. That’s total for the trip. I decided to spend an extra $5,000 on my dress so I took that money from my honeymoon budget.

~ How bad is customs in Hawaii? {said by a US citizen}

~ Why would Disney build a park that is exclusive to Harry Potter?

~ How much alcohol can you take into the theme parks?

dumbo~ Could you please give me a quote to sleep in one of the little boats that hang on the side of the cruise ship? They seem like they would be cool to stay in.

~ Can you please request that I don’t have a stateroom attendant on the cruise? I don’t want to pay him a gratuity. I also don’t need a time to go to the dining hall. I  don’t want to pay the gratuity to the servers either.

~ {said by a 19 year old college student booking a spring break cruise} I will use my fake ID to get alcohol on the cruise ship? /Agent: They don’t check your ID at the bar. You are issued a room key/charging card that will say you are underage to purchase alcohol./ Client: Bummer

~ My cat has separation anxiety. Do you think the hotel maid will change his kitty pan if I take him with us?

~ {after they returned} Client: I would like you to refund me the cost of my trip. /Agent: Why? / Client: I got caught smoking three times in non authorized areas and I was kicked out of the parks. It was a huge inconvenience.

Things said to a Travel Agent #2

Magic kingdom Castle

By Frances

By popular demand, here is a second installment of Things Said to a Travel Agent. As a travel professional, I pride myself on knowing details about a destination and lot of ins & out. These are some more comments or questions that have taken me off guard in my years in the travel business. You can imagine my responses. Please enjoy with a great sense of humor. EPCOT Flowers

~ I would like to stay at a clothing optional resort at Walt Disney World. (I did giggle a little when asked this)

~ Client:  I would like my 9 year old to have charging capabilities on his Magic Band. I would like for him to be able to purchase things when I’m not with him and to able to use the dining plan. Me: {knowing it’s a single dad and only his son on this trip} Oh! Will another family be joining you? Client: No, I will find a good spot to sit and let him do all of the rides by himself. I would prefer to read my book and people watch than to ride rides.

~ I can’t afford to pay off my trip. My kids are super excited. Can you pay the balance and I can pay you back with my tax returns?

~ Client: Could you please tell me some of the best places to hide and smoke at the parks? Me: You don’t have to hide, there are designated smoking areas at each resort and at all of the theme parks. Client: They let you smoke pot at Disney?

Seven Seas Lagoon

Seven Seas Lagoon

~ I would like the garden view room at the Contemporary please. I will then find something wrong during my stay and raise hell. They will upgrade me then to an atrium room and I won’t have to pay for it.

~ Client: How many bottles of water can I take into the parks? Me: I don’t believe there is a limit on how many bottles you can take as long as you can comfortably carry them. Client: So you don’t think 6 – 24 ounce bottles is too many? Me: For the 4 of you, I think that would be fine but you can get free refills of water at any restaurant. Client: Oh, they won’t be filled with water. I’m filling them with vodka.

~ {A woman} I will go into the men’s restroom with my 5 year old son. I don’t want him to feel uncomfortable going into one with out me?  Me: The men’s restroom?  Client: Yes Ma’am!

~ I know Stormalong Bay at the Beach Club is only for their resort guests but can you tell me how to sneak in there?

~ Can you please tell me how to cheat the magic bands? I want my friends staying at the Hilton to use our passes too.

Do you want to be a Travel Agent?

haunted mansion

From my earliest memories, I loved to travel. It didn’t matter if it was a day excursion or an 10 night dream trip. I wanted to see my Downtown Disney entrance sign, Mickey Mouse Disney, Mickey Mouse Disney sign, Disney, Mickey Mouseworld, my country, my state and my town. That passion for travel brought me to opening my own agency. I know that there are many people that have this same dream and I would like to help make their dreams come true as well. Before becoming a travel agent, I worked at the The Disney Store on the management team. My favorite part was training new cast members and always being able to learn something new. That is the foundation of Magical Vacations by Me. It’s about having a support system to help you realize your dreams. Whether you are a new agent or someone that has been in the industry for awhile, please read the article below and email the answers to the questions below to frances@magicalvacationsbyme.com

As an independent contractor with Magical Vacations by Me, LLC,  you’ll set your own schedule while booking travel for clients and receiving commission on that client’s travels. You’ll be running your own home business via Internet, phone, and in-person and could enjoy tax benefits – please speak with your tax adviser. This is a 100% commission position. There is no base salary or company provided health insurance.

There are no hidden fees with Magical Vacations by Me. You can expect to pay normal business expenses such as document mailing costs, business cards, office supplies, travel expenses, continuing education, etc. There is a one time on boarding fee of $150 that you can receive $100 back once you have met a $15,000 sales goal within 9 months on contract. No yearly or monthly sales fees.

You would work under Magical Vacations by Me’s industry ID. You would be able to book vacations for trips all around the world, if you so choose. You aren’t limited to just Disney.

Polynesian Resort, Polynesian Resort food, Plynesian resort restaurantsMYTH: Being a Travel Specialist will be soooo easy! All you do is punch in a couple of keys on the computer and it’s done!

Clients don’t always want to talk when it’s convenient to you. You only get paid AFTER your client has traveled and AFTER MVbM has received payment from the vendor. This means that you put forth a lot of work before you get paid. There is also a chance that you may work hard and the client books direct with Disney, with another agent or they may decide not to go.

You must also be in the US legally and fill out a W9 form for tax purposes.

If you application is accepted:

1. There is a $150 on boarding fee that you will receive $100 back when you have $15,000 in confirmed sales within the first 9 months on contract.

Expedition Everest Challenge, is it the race for you?

By Lisa P.

Many of you have probably heard about all the big Run Disney events such as Marathon weekend, the Princess half, Tinkerbell half, Wine and Dine half and Disneyland half marathon. Have you ever looked at the races and thought, “I would love to do a Disney race, but could never run a half marathon? Well, then the Expedition Everest Challenge may be the run for you! Here are some reasons you may want to do this race:

1.Instead of the 10 miles, 13.1 or 26.2 miles of the other Disney races, this one is only 3.1. This means you don’t have to spend as much time preparing, or you can even walk it and not be on the course for hours 

2.You get to run through Animal Kingdom and celebrate there after the race…AT NIGHT! How many times have you been to Animal Kingdom and while being kicked out of the park you were wondering what it was like at night? Well this is your chance. This is a nighttime run that begins at 10pm in the Animal Kingdom parking lot, runs through the park. After the run you get to celebrate in an after party in the park!

3.This is not your normal 5k, you can run on your own, or as part of a 2 person team, all while completing obstacles. After the run you will take place in a scavenger hunt. With this run you will take part in the 5k that if full of obstacles that you complete on your way t the finish line and then complete a scavenger hunt to earn your Expedition Everest Compass Medal!

4.Your children can take part in the fun too! The Challenge also offers an Expedition Everest Challenge Family Edition. This is geared toward runners 4 years old and up. In this challenge runners go on a short run, complete a scavenger hunt and earn a finisher medallion.

Everest challenge map

As you can see, this is a fun run that is perfect for all ages. It is not nearly as crowded as the longer races, but still full of Disney fun! If you are looking for a run with big crowds, and a big expo then this may not be the race for you. If however you want a fun run with the great Disney atmosphere, then be sure to check it out!

The price in 2013 was between $110-$130 for an individual depending on when you register. It is between $220-$260 for a 2 person team and $35 per person for the family challenge. You can also purchase additional tickets for the after party for those non-runners in the family for between $49-$50.

I am looking forward to running this in just over a month and can’t wait to share my experience and pictures with all of you! ~ Lisa

Top reasons that you need to try Kona Café for lunch

Top reasons that you need to try Kona Café for lunch

By Lisa P.

If you are like me, then you already know that Kona Café in the Polynesian resort is the place to go for a great breakfast (Tonga Toast anyone?) What I didn’t know however, was how great their lunch is as well. Here are the top 3 reasons that you need to try it!

Delicious offerings that you can’t find anywhere else.

We were on our way to the Magic Kingdom and really wanted something different for lunch than the usual offering that they have at MK. Since we wanted to stop at the Poly for a Lapu Lapu anyway, we decided to try Kona. We were not disappointed by the offerings.

My Dad is a big burger lover, so he was anxious to try the Kona Surf and Turf Burger Deluxe ($15.49). It is an Angus burger topped with spicy shrimp and garlic aioli. I don’t eat burgers very often, and after trying a bite it was a good thing he was not sitting next to me or I would have stolen it! I ordered the fish tacos ($14.99) and they were delicious. They had huge pices of tilapia in them, and with blacked seasoning on them they easily became my new favorite fish taco. My Mom decided to give the Ahi Tuna Sandwich ($13.49) a try, and again it was great. Served rare on pineapple bread it was the perfect combination! There was not a part of the meal that we did not enjoy.

Kona cafe burger

You can get the same drinks there that you can get at the Tambu Lounge.

We originally went to the Poly to try the infamous Lapu Lapu, how after so many trips we had never tried this I still don’t know! When we got there Tambu wasn’t quite ready to open, but the bartender told us that we can get the same thing at Kona. This drink did not disappoint! It is a combination of Myers’s Dark rum and tropical fruit juices served in a pineapple topped with 151 ($13.25) This is a great drink to share, or if you would rather keep it to yourself then 1 is enough! They also served Kona Fire rock and Kona Longboard beers that can’t be found other places on property.

The service and location are great!

As with most Disney restaurants the service was great. I have always wanted to try the bananas Foster bread pudding that they have at Ohana, but never made it there for dinner. I mentioned this to the server and since they share a kitchen with Ohana he talked to the chef and they were able to make it for me! Another great thing is the location, it is easy to reach by monorail, so if you park at the TTC or take the monorail over from EPCOT like we did it is an easy walk or a quick monorial ride away. You can also walk out to the pool and beach after your meal to take in the beautiful view. It is an overall great experience!

The Kona Café is on the dining plan and is 1 table service meal. They also accept the Tables in Wonderland card and accept ADR’s (Advance Dining Reservations). Some other offerings that they have are:

Appetizers

Grilled Beef Satay Skewers: $9.99

Fried Rock Shrimp: $13.99

Pot Stickers: $ 7.49

Entrees

Island Chicken Sandwich: $13.99

Pan Asian Noodles: $17.99

Barbeque Pork Taco: $11.99

Desserts

White Chocolate Cheesecake: $5.49

Banana-Chocolate Crème Brulee- $5.99

Pineapple Upside Down Cake- $5.99

If you are in WDW and are looking for a new place to try with good food, then be sure to add Kona Café to the list!

Drinking Around the World at Epcot’s Mexico Pavilion

184256_1861567982792_306144_n

I don’t know if its the spirit of the Mexico pavilion, the ambiance when you walk into the temple, the smell of peppers that wafts through the air, or the ever changing range of flavors… but I can’t seem to walk through Epcot’s Mexico pavilion without stopping for a sip.  A sip of one of those yummy margaritas, that is.  I have tried most every flavor from strawberry, mango, lime raspberry, and even the fiesta which mixes the flavors currently available at any current location.  My favorite so far: Passionfruit with sugar on the rim!

Take it from me there is nothing better to compliment a stroll around the world or to refresh you after a hot summer day in Epcot! Next time you are in Epcot stop in La Cava de Tequila or the Margarita Drink Cart try one for yourself and you will see-  no one perfects a classic like Disney!

Salud!

Drinking Around the World at Epcot’s Germany Pavilion

183588_1861566262749_1583702_n

I consider the Germany pavilion to be one of the World Showcases little hidden havens.  There is something about the fountain with the statue of St. George slaying the dragon and the faint sounds of Oktoberfest accordion music coming from the Biergarten buffet restaurant that make me immediately embrace my own German heritage and feel cozy and at home.

Sommerfest is a great stop for lunch and for one of my favorite beers: Altenmunster Oktoberfest.

If you like normal Oktoberfest brews it may not be your first choice, however, and I will explain why.

I first gave this a try as I like beers with a much lighter taste and at the time we stopped I saw the look of the beer the people in front of us had ordered.  I asked what they had and it was love at first sip.

With more of an ale taste, this was a perfect choice to compliment the brats we ordered for lunch on a bright and sunny Florida day.  Next time you are strolling through World Showcase, whether you are a beer connoisseur or just want something to compliment your meal (or the feel of the pavilion) I don’t think you will be disappointed!

Prost!!
