A Runner’s Life Is Not For Me????

Lisa running dopey

By Frances

I had the honor of cheering on my friend Lisa in her quest to complete the Dopey Challenge. What is the Dopey Challenge? It is a challenge that includes 4 days of back to back races where the runners complete 4 races. A 5K on Thursday (3.1 miles), 10K on Friday (6.2 miles), 1/2 Marathon on Saturday (13.1 miles) & a Full Marathon  on Sunday (26.2 miles) totaling 48.6 miles. There photowere 7,000 runners that registered to complete the Dopey Challenge in spring 2013.

I was expecting the weekend to be fun with the exception of getting up at 3:00 am. I also was there to just support Lisa and to cheer her on in what I would have considered … well, A Dopey Challenge! Saturday morning was my first morning to be in full cheer mode for her. Lisa’s mom, Patty, and I devised a plan that she would see her off at the start. I would see her at the Magic Kingdom. Patty would try to make it to the Magic Kingdom but was unsure if she could make it in time & then back to the finish line to see Lisa cross the finish line.

As I waited in line to board the motor coach at 3:30am, the vibe of the runners and their supporters was almost palatable. There were people dressed up as Donald Duck, Tinkerbell, Minnie Mouse and more. The crazy part was, it wasn’t just the women. Men were dressed up just as much! There was an excessive amounts of smiles and laughter that could have easily powered the city of Monstropolis for a week.

I parted ways with Lisa & Patty at Epcot to make my journey to the Magic Kingdom via the monorail. There were families boarding the monorail to cheer on their loved ones. There was a couple that live in Orlando that go to the Magic Kingdom every race to cheer on the runners. There were so many stories that I really became inspired. I always thought of running as a non spectator sport but here were a bunch of people going out to spectate at too early in the morning.

I saw families cheering on loved ones. Dads seeing their kids and picking them up for hugs. Wives kissing their husbands has they ran by. High fives given freely to anyone and everyone.

I also formed a few hour bond with the other spectators around me. We were all making sure no one missed seeing their friend or loved one. When they passed us, we were all cheering for them. It brought tears to my eyes to see all of the loved ones faces light up with the realization that they had their very own cheer section.

Here is a video of Lisa running through the Magic Kingdom: Click Here

Disney running events can be incredibly expensive but incredibly thrilling from the runner and spectators point of view.

I have never ran a race at Disney. But I plan to soon.

Are you Dopey enough for the Dopey Challenge?

Dopey

By Lisa P.

Do you love Disney So much that you run through it? If so the new additions to the Walt Disney Marathon weekend may be just right for you!

As many of you know Disney has been putting on the Walt Disney marathon weekend for 20 years now. They have been offering the Half and full marathons as well as a 5k. They have also had the Goofy Challenge it involves running the half marathon on Saturday and Full on Sunday, that is 39.3 miles over 2 days…as they say you aren’t crazy if you do it, just Goofy.   Marathon start

Well now Disney has taken it a step further, coming in 2014 Disney is adding 2 more races a 10k and the new Dopey Challenge! For those of us crazy enough you can run a 5k/10k/half marathon/full marathon over 4 days and get the new Dopey medal! If you do this race you will be running 48.6 miles over 4 days! This Mouze had already planned on doing the Goofy Challenge, but since I love Dopey how can I not do this challenge? You will also get a medal for each of the individual races as well as the Goofy Challenge medal!

There is something truly amazing about running through the Disney Parks before they are open. You get to run through Cinderella’s Castle, see rare characters and go places that you would never get to if you weren’t doing the race.

There is one downside to the new races (besides some sore legs and feet!) The cost is a bit steep for the runs. If you register before June 18th the prices are as follows:

Walt Disney World Marathon: $160

Walt Disney World Half Marathon: $160

Goofy’s race and a Half Challenge: $340

Walt Disney World 10k: $95

Disney Family Fun Run 5k: $60

Dopey Challenge: $495

There are additional packages for travel and pre race pasta parties as well. You may also qualify for discounts. DVC offers a small $10-$20 discount for the runs. They have all the information at rundisney.com.

So if you love Disney and want some great medals to go on your wall then the Disney World Marathon weekend may be for you! I am already planning what fun Dopey costume I can come up with to wear in January, hope to see some of you there!

LisaLisa just moved to Nashville, TN, after spending 28 years in Ohio. She has been a huge Disney fan since her parents took her on her first trip at age two. 2. She has been to Disney over 70 times and worked at Blizzard Beach as part of the Disney

College Program. She is now working on finding a way to move to FL, so she can be closer to her favorite place on Earth!

Winning the Lottery?

drive to Mgic Kingdom, road to Magic Kingdom, Magic Kingdom entrance sign, Magic Kingdom toll, Magic Kingdom parking cost

By Amanda

With the largest lottery jack pot for Powerball in the books a few short weeks ago, it got my family to day dreaming about what we would do if we won. Of course, my fiance and I (being practical) said we would set up college funds for each of the kids (There’s 5), a new house with bedrooms for everyone so they wouldn’t have to share anymore and of course two new vehicles. But beyond that what would we do?be our guest bridge_332098596_n

This is when one of the twins said “We want to go to Disney!” Leave it to one of the kids to put it in the simplest what would you dos. So we began asking them specifics. It seems they had all put their heads together and came up with a game plan. Surprisingly all 5 agreed to it with little tweaks of course. We’d rent a private plane to gather up specific friends and family to meet us down there. Rent a large church bus to get everyone from the airport to the Resort. Here is where the little tweak happens.  Three of them wanted to stay at Bay Lake Tower while the other two liked The Tree Houses at Saratoga Springs. At this point I had to laugh, at least they were thinking large enough for the 7 of us and the 30 other people they were inviting.DVC Bay Lake, Bay Lake Tower, Disney resort, save money,

I agreed that either one would be a good choice as there are seven of us and both of those resorts can accommodate large families. The next topic up was food. With three teenage boys, food was a priority. Having been to Disney my son knows Disney goes above and beyond with the food. He had them convinced to go with Premium Dining because we you get 3 meals a day and 2 snacks, the kicker on this one was the inclusion of La Nouba tickets. Yes I have Cirque Du Soliel children. It wasn’t the golf or free recreation stuff, but La Nouba. Of course we’d have to have the water parks and more option as they had stated we’d be staying 2 weeks in order to stay at both resorts!

Disney, Disney Wedding Pavillion, Disney Wedding

Disney’s Wedding Pavillion

The girls also stated that there would be a wedding at Cinderella’s Castle and that it would be the best ever since it would be mine and my fiance. They both stated they would plan everything. Twelve year old twins and the fantasy of getting married at Disney is in their minds. I pray their Prince’s have the pockets for it.

So with all their talking this begs the question.. What would you have done if you’d won the Big Power Ball Lotto?
