Sad News

Alan Rickman passed away this morning from a short battle with Cancer. He was known as Professor Snape in the Harry Potter Movie Series and also played Hans Gruber in the Die Hard Series. While these two characters are what he’s probably most known for he also had roles in Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves, Sense and Sensibility, as well as an upcoming voice work for Alice Through the Looking Glass. He is a great talent that will be missed.

10 Things to help survive the airport

With the holiday traveling wrapping up and having done my fair share in the month of December and another trip coming up in a couple of weeks, there are a few things I’ve noticed that make traveling through the airport easier.

  1. Print out boarding passes at home if possible. Most airlines now have online check in
  2. Arrive at least 2 hours before your flight in order to check any baggage and get through security.
  3. At the first TSA check point have your drivers license ready or other official id and your boarding pass. If traveling with small children the TSA officer will ask them their name and birthdate though that is not on the boarding pass. Teenagers with driving permits should have those out with their boarding pass.
  4. Getting through the metal detectors vary from airport to airport. In Atlanta you have to take your shoes off unless you are 12 and under or 75 and older but going through Orlando our shoes stayed on. Computers need to come out of their carry cases. Things go into a gray bucket or on the belt to go through xray while you will most likely walk through the new full body scanners. Best advise here is to pay attention to the little signs in line as to what needs to be done.provision-active-millimeter-wave-imager
  5. Once through security find your gate.. Keep an ear out for gate changes (mine changed 3 times in Boston).
  6. Have a little cash on you for a munchie or a drink to take on the plane with you. Most airlines now days will give you a little cup of drink and some peanuts or pretzel’s.
  7. If traveling with kids have something for them to do while in flight. There was a mom on my flight to Boston that had a charged ipad for her 3 year old to watch her cartoons with and headphones. I had a novel to read and a book on my phone. Technology will never leave you bored. This awesome mm also had a sippy cup for when they brought the drinks and transferred the drink into the sippy cup to cut down on the spillage chances.
  8. When disembarking the plane have patience. People are grabbing their carry on’s from overhead and herding children up the aisle and off the plane.
  9. The stewardess no longer tell you on what carousel your luggage will pop up on at baggage claim. Follow the signs to baggage claim and they all have screens that will tell you the flight number arriving from your city and what carousel number that your luggage should magically appear 🙂 airport-signage
  10. Have a pick up plan. Whether it’s the local transportation, a friend or family member or you arriving back home. I write down where I parked and put it in my wallet with the parking ticket. I try to leave enough money for parking someplace locked in my car.

The most important thing about any traveling though is to roll with it and make memories. Will everything go smoothly, Odds are definately in your favor for that to happen, but if there’s a hickup roll with it and make the best of your vacation. Disconnect from social media and enjoy your vacation. Take pictures and have fun.

Will your ID work for air travel in 2016?

Will your driver’s license get you through airport security in 2016? In 2005 The Department of Homeland Security put into place the Real ID act which  “set standards for the issuance of sources of identification, such as driver’s licenses.” The Act established minimum security standards for state-issued driver’s licenses and identification cards and prohibits Federal agencies from accepting for official purposes licenses and identification cards from states that do not meet these standards. In my state of Georgia this meant when I renewed my license I had as much paperwork as a 1st time driver did. I had to produce my social security card, two bills showing residence, my divorce decree and my birth certificate.

States have had since 2005 to comply with these rules set forth by the Federal Government. However, there are a few that the extensions will be running out as of January 10, 2016 and it is advisable for those residence living in those states to obtain a passport. The States with the extension running out January 10th are: Alaska, California, Illinois, Missouri, New Jersey, New Mexico, South Carolina and Washington. 19 other states have until October 2016 to comply.

So what does it mean if you live in one of these states that have the extension running out? From what I’ve been able to find out… not much at this time for air travel. The DHS is implementing the tighter restrictions first in federal facilities such as nuclear power plants, laboratories and military bases. They will phase in to the airports at some point in 2016. They are hoping this gives those states that have not complied a little more time to change laws on their books to comply. Best advise to people who live in the states that have not complied is to get a passport if you have travel plans later in the year. We all know politicians can take forever to pass a law 🙂

Higher Security Presence in the Parks

security 1Good afternoon Mouze Keeterz!

With the way the world is turning these days, Disney has heightened security at their parks by adding metal detectors and added security officers inside the parks.

We have an insider there who took a few pictures for us of this added security. Our insider also said there were K-9 units and Orange County Sheriff’s roaming in full uniform inside the parks.

Not everyone has to walk through the metal detectors they are pulling people at random to walk through.

Bags will continued to be checked.

Children 14 and under may be in costume. Anyone older will not be admitted. (This has been a long standing rule, they have just upped the age)

Guns of any kind are prohibited. This includes Buzz Lightyear’s gun or Davy Crockett’s gun. Another insider said they were even removing them from the shelves but we don’t have confirmation yet.

Changes to Memory Maker

Disney is always updating and re-imaging things. They updated Photopass to Photopass Plus then merged it into Memory Maker. The price was good for what all you could get picture wise for your vacation. They’ve updated Memory Maker to include short video’s of your family on their rides now.

Now a change that effects the wallets in a positive way for Disney guests!

Beginning Dec. 14, 2015, the following changes will take effect for Memory Maker at Walt Disney World® Resort.

The price of the pre-arrival, advance-purchase Memory Maker  will change from $169 to $149. In addition, the price of the standard Memory Maker product will change from $199 to $169.

Guests who previously purchased Memory Maker at the higher price but who have yet to activate their Memory Maker  will be automatically issued a promotional store credit (for the difference paid) for use on if they have a contactable email address on file.

Also they are now going to let you have Memory Maker for one day! Beginning Dec. 15, 2015, a new standalone $59 Memory Maker One Day entitlement product is available for purchase in the My Disney Experience mobile app only, allowing you to enjoy the benefits of Memory Maker for one day at Disney! Memory Maker One Day can only be purchased during or after your vacation and only if there are photos on your account. So go out and get your picture taken with those crazy characters!
