Ohana Dinner Bread: the Bake-It-Yourself Recipe

By Melissa L.

Mmmm, Ohana bread- I can almost smell it! I stumbled upon this on the Disney Recipes Facebook page and bookmarked it long ago.  The recipe was straightforward, and I followed the same directions  but split mine into rolls (see in directions below).  The only thing I would change about this was maybe adding a second banana because the flavor wasn’t as strong as I would have liked, or remembered, and it didn’t quite have the consistency of a fruit bread.

1 ripe banana (crushed)

3 Tbsp. sugar

1 cup self-rising bread flour

4 tsp. shortening

1 egg yolk

3 Tbsp. powdered milk

1 Tbsp. salt

2 Tbsp. yeast

4 Tbsp. water

1/2 cup butter

1. Place banana, egg yolk, water, shortening, salt, sugar, flour, powdered milk, and yeast in a mixing bowl; mix on 1st speed for two minutes and then on 2nd speed until dough pulls away from sides of the bowl.

2. Dust sides of bowl with flour so dough does not stick. Let rise to top of bowl.

Cut dough into two pieces and roll tightly into loaf shape. (Instead, I made mine into 6 rolls).

3. Bake at 325 until golden brown and rise double the size.

4. Remove and (optional) brush with melted butter.
My rolls took about 25 minutes.

Oh, can you smell this bread?! Let us know how the recipe turns out for you.

Thanks for stopping by for a photographical Disney ride, and we’ll see ya in the kitchen!
