Mickey Mouse Chocolate Cupcakes: The Bake-It-Yourself Recipe

Oreo cookies, oreo cupcakes, chocolate cupcakes, chocolate oreos recipe

By Melissa L.

Ah, who doesn’t just love a good cupcake?! One of my very favorite Disney cupcakes are the Boardwalk Oreo Bon Bon Mickey Cupcakes. While I had no specific recipe for these,  I spotted a pin on Pinterest that lead me only to a few bloggers who had tried it.  Later on I found the recipe on www.DisneyFamily.com. I changed mine up a bit, because the the Boardwalk Oreo Bon Bon Mickey Cupcakes are yellow vanilla with vanilla frosting, and I decided to go with chocolate this time. But for what it’s worth, these are super easy and cute!

Oreo Bon Bon Cupcake: The Oreo Bon Bon Cupcake is composed of yellow vanilla cake and topped with a rich vanilla frosting. Oreo crumbles coat the frosting, and two Oreo Mickey Mouse ears top the cupcake. Up until this point, it’s not all that special (I wish the vanilla frosting were a bit more complex), but once you get inside, you reach the real treat, as the cupcake is filled with delicious Oreo-laden buttercream fill that is absolutely out of this world. I wish I could have ordered a bowl of just that! Although, my waistline is thankful that such a dessert does not exist. This is available a few locations on property; we purchased ours at BoardWalk Bakery.

  1. Ice your cupcakes with chocolate icing (as you can see from my pic vanilla was not a good choice)
  2. Crumble half of your oreos
  3. Dip the tops of your iced cupcakes into the crumbled oreos until they are coated with cookie crumb

4. Scrape the icing off of a mini oreo that is still in tact using a butter knife.

5. Place your Oreo into the iced cupcake in “ear position.”

6. Share and enjoy!

If you prefer for your cupcakes to be more like the original Boardwalk Oreo Bon Bon Mickey Cupcakes, then just use vanilla cake mix and vanilla icing. To duplicate the creamy center, you will still use these directions for decorating, but you will use the new Fundamiddles (http://www.bettycrocker.com/products/fundamiddles) boxed mix to make the cupcake, and just mix the filling with some crumbled Oreos for the effect.

Thanks for stopping by for a photographical Disney ride, and we’ll see you in the kitchen, a yummy Disney-inspired cupcake in hand.
