Get Ready! Here’s 20 FREE Things to Do at Downtown Disney

Downtown Disney World of Disney, Downtown Disney Pleasure Island, Downtown Disney Free

We gave you “The Sweet Shop You Absolutely Can’t Miss at Downtown Disney.” Maybe you went a little crazy and spent all your Disney Dollars. Are you looking for some Disney fun without the big expense of more theme park tickets? We put our Mouze Kateerz Krew on the case at one of our favorite places to go in Orlando…Downtown Disney!

Get your pencil and jot down some of these ideas.

1) During certain times of the year, you can take your holiday photo with special Disney characters for your holiday card. This is usually located near the bus entrance. ~ Frances

2) Let the kids play in the fountains or get squirted by Stitch at the World of Disney to cool off ~ Lisa

3) Head into the Lego store.  Out front there are “build your own race car” stations and ramps that you can have a contest with.  In the back of the store is a Lego table with tons of Legos for kids to sit and play. ~ Melissa

4) Get fairy godmother dusted at the Bippidy Boppidy Boutique ~ Frances

5) Window shop! There’s so many stores, you could just look around all day without spending a dime.  ~ Hiromi

Once Upon A Toy, Disney's Once Upon A Toy, Downtown Disney stores, Downtown Disney shopping

6) Take a seat in a bench and watch the vacationers walk by.  You see all sorts of Disney wear, and just watching kids squeal with delight is always fun. ~ Amanda

7) Take your photo with all the different Disney signs and statues throughout Downtown Disney. Kids love these, and the Lego statues are really cool to be photographed with. ~ Mike

8) If you have free time and you’re not rushing back to the parks to ride roller coasters, there are all sorts of opportunities to hear great musicians, which range from high school groups to professionals.  Take a seat and enjoy some really fabulous music.  ~ Amanda

9) Going along with #8, there are some really great dance groups that perform on stage in front of the World of Disney every day. There is a sign announcing performance times by the stage. Some of these music and dance performers travel a long way to show off their artistic skills,  so hang out for a while and see a great show.  ~ Amanda

10) Take a water shuttle over to Port Orleans, Saratoga Springs Resort, and Old Key West Resorts. Not only is the boat ride fun, but you can go look around the resorts. You might decide one of these resorts is where you want to stay on your next vacation.  ~ Hiromi

Ghirardelli Soda Fountain, Ghirardelli chocolate, Ghirardelli Free chocolate, Ghirardelli Downtown Disney

11) Ghiradelli’s staff hands out free chocolate samples throughout the day. If you can avoid buying anything, the samples are free.  ~ Mike

12) Hunt around for Hidden Micky’s. People love looking for these and that can be great entertainment. ~ Hiromi

13) As far as window shopping, one of my favorite spots is the Art of Disney. I could stand around forever looking at the Disney paintings and statues. Quite often there is an artist drawing in the store, and you can watch his or her work in action, being displayed up on a big screen. ~ Mike

14) If you walk by the Rainforest Cafe at the right time, there can be Cast Members with exotic birds giving short talks. The birds frequently talk too. If you miss the live animals, there’s always the animatronic variety outside the restaurant. ~ Hiromi

15) Head over to the hot air balloon, “Characters in Flight”  You really can’t miss it, unless it’s a windy day and grounded, because it floats up 400 feet in the air.  Kids love watching the balloon go up and down, and this makes for great photos.  ~Mike

World of Disney store, World of Disney Downtown Disney,

16) #6 says to find a bench. I say to find one after dinner and watch the sun go down. Orlando has some really awesome sunsets. – Hiromi

17) Coming from the World of Disney, which houses the Bibbidy Bobbidy Boutique, there is a Princess Parade that walks past the stage over toward the store Once Upon a Toy. Join the crowd and let your inner Disney Princess free! ~ Hiromi. If you need info to make a resertavion for later whe you have $, click here our review.

18) Stop by the Harley Davidson shop and have your photo taken on a hog, I mean, a Harley. ~ Mike

19) Man, my kids love Arribas Brothers! There is a glass blower and a glass cutter on staff doing demonstrations throughout the day, and we have literally stood around for half an hour just watching the guys show off their craft. There’s not a lot of places I know where you can see glass blowing in action. These guys are fantastic ~ Amanda

20) Right next door to Arribas Brothers, next to the free chocolate samples at Ghiradelli’s, is a store called Basin. My entire family will spend 20-30 minutes in Basin, just touching and smelling the soaps and trying the free lotion samples. You can wash your hands with their sugar and salt scrubs, leaving your hands silky smooth. This is one of my favorite haunts at Downtown Disney. Hint- cranberry lemongrass soap smells amazing. ~ Amanda.

  4. Carol stockman says:

We love downtown Disney. About 12 years ago, when taking our granddaughters to WDW, we told them they could pick out anything they wanted at down town Disney, but no purchases at the parks. They were happy with this, we breezed by the toy stores at every ride. We do the same thing now with the younger grands. Makes it special to shop there.
